So far we have established we want to make some money using the internet, we have a topic in mind for the website, one which is of interest to ourselves. We spent time listing possible website addresses we could used, checked which are available and selected our favourite. (All of which is covered in my last few articles.
The next step in the long journey is to purchase some web hosting, otherwise known as “webspace”. This is where all the files used to create your website will be stored. For my website creations I actually use a company located in the States. The company is called Lunarpages, although it really doesn’t matter too much where they are, as long as they have a good report from other users I see no reason not to use them. With my hosting account I can have an unlimited amount of add-on domains, meaning if I think of another affiliate website to create all I need to do is simply purchase the domain name and add/link it to my hosting account. I have an unlimited amount of storage space, allowing me to upload as many files as I wish, although this is never going to be a huge amount as I have no intention of using media files.
At the moment I am only on a basic hosting plan with the company and the amount I pay is very very small. Certainly less than 5$/£3 per month.
Once you have found a potential hosting company (again I would highly recommend Lunarpages – see the above link), it does not matter if they are not located in the same country as you. As long as they come recommended and do everything you need – which I can pretty much guarantee they do, that is enough. There are some bad ones out there, so be warned, I used a couple of other companies before moving to Lunarpages, but their servers seemed soo slow and it would take an age for webpages to be displayed (This is not always just down to the speed of your internet connection, although that does help).
With some hosting providers they sometimes offer you a free domain name (website address) upon signing up, this could be a great chance to obtain a second address for another site you had in mind, again use the steps I have written about previously to help you with this.
OK. Now we have our aim, we have our idea, we have the well thought about niche/topic, we have the website address and we now have the hosting. The next part is to get something online and hopefully in the future get a little bit of extra income from it.
